Hello All!

Hope 2010 has been good for all of you so far!

We are proud to bring you Successful Teens Achieving Reality (STAR) Academy, a mentoring/coaching program.

Aim:
To empower teens with coping skills to achieve better results in their life.

What is it about?
Coaching teens on life skills, study skills, and proactive decision-making within a supportive environment.

Who:
Psychology students (have taken PSY 101 – Introduction to Psychology, or equivalent)

Supervisors: Ms Marion Neubronner and Dr Reena (UB Lecturers)

Coaching will take place in Mayflower Secondary School and St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School.

Maximum intake: 20 people

Training period (to be a coach): 12 Feb to 12 March 2010 (Kindly refer to the attachment for details)
Coaching Period: 8 March to end of April (Dates are dependent on both our availability and the secondary schools’ needs)
Venue: mostly SIM for trainings and the secondary schools for coaching

Volunteering Opportunity @ IMH

During December, we will be organizing a volunteering program at IMH, through The Achievers, Friends of IMH. The Achievers is a non-profit, non-religious volunteer group established in 1999, whose primary focus is on IMH’s patients. Their mission is to give care and love, to develop social skills and to improve general knowledge.

Details

Date: 17, 18, 21, 22, 23 Dec (check doc attachment for further info about planned programme for the 5 days)

Time: 10-12 pm

Venue: IMH

Beneficiaries: Special Friends

Age group of Special Friends: 20-60 year olds

Transportation: no transportation will be given. *

*Meeting place and time will be confirmed at a later date, so after registering through the student portal, do drop us an email (events.psysociety@gmail.com) so that we can contact you about the details.

Orientation: We are trying to set up a One hour orientation that will brief us on the do’s and don’ts, what to expect, etc. **

Note: A certificate of participation can be requested at the end of the volunteering period.

How to register using the SIM Student portal:

1. Log-in to the SIM student portal.
2. Click on the “CCA” Tab on the bottom-left corner.
3. Select “Registration of Activity”.
4. 3 drop-down tabs should show up. Under “CCA Type”, select “Special Interest”, under “Club Name”, select “Psychology Society”, click the “SEARCH” tab. Please do note that this is to be done in sequence and there will be a slight load-up time in between each selection.
5. A table will show up. Select “Volunteer with The Achievers“. Locate the “Register Now” column and check the box in it. Following that, click the “REGISTER” tab.
6. A small window will open and ask if you want to register for the event. click “OK”.
7. You are now registered! 🙂

Play: “Don’t Forget to Remember Me”

In an effort to raise awareness on the detrimental effects of dementia, the Health Promotion Board and The Necessary Stage presents the play – “Don’t Forget To Remember Me”. It tells the story of Madam Wong, a retiree who was looking forward to touring Europe but was diagnosed with dementia which affected many aspects of her life and the people around her. DFTRM stars Timothy Nga, Goh Guat Kian, Karen Tan and Rodney Oliveiro.
